The Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) announces the increase in the mileage rate for medical and forensic travel expenses from 2.5 cents to 58.5 cents per mile effective January 1, 2022.

This rate must be paid for travel on or after January 1, 2022, regardless of the date of the injury. Section 4600 of the Labor Code, together with Section 19820 of the Government Code and California Department of Human Resources regulations, establishes the rate payable for mileage reimbursement for medical and forensic expenses and binds it to the ‘Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

IRS bulletin IR-2021-251 of December 17, 2021 announced the rate increase. The updated mileage reimbursement form is posted on the DWC website.
