Netafim USA and Bayer join forces to launch “Precise Defense” crop protection solution for almond growers

FRESNO, Calif .– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) –Netafim United Statesa subsidiary of Netafim Ltd. – the world leader in precision irrigation solutions, today announced its partnership with Bayer to create the Precise Defense program. This program represents a complete solution designed specifically to combat nematodes, an invisible but devastating threat to the health and productivity of almond trees. Precise Defense delivers a powerful punch by using Netafim’s precision drip irrigation technology to deliver Velum® One Nematicide and other crop protection products directly to the root zone. This distribution method maximizes residual efficiency through consistent application rates and dramatically reduces the amount of water used to irrigate almond trees.

Growers who purchase a full Netafim dual-line drip irrigation system from an authorized dealer and purchase two applications of Velum One annually from an authorized dealer are eligible for a rebate of $ 40 per acre. *

Each year, nematode damage results in a loss of yield of about $ 1.57 billion for almond growers. It is directly responsible for weak tree vigor, increased disease transmission, reduced water and nutrient uptake, and root damage. Over 50% of California’s perennial crop area is affected by high populations of nematodes.1

In a three-year trial, trees treated with Velum One gave an average yield increase of 18.1%, or 292 pounds per acre. In addition, these trees:

  • Showed a 58% increase in canopy area.

  • Showed an 11.2% increase in trunk growth compared to UTC (untreated control).

  • Showed low levels of gall and nematode infestations.2

“Netafim’s advanced drip irrigation systems improve irrigation uniformity and have the ability to reduce the amount of water needed to grow a pound of almonds by 20%. Additionally, our systems provide an effective and efficient delivery solution for Velum One and other crop protection chemicals, ”said Mike Hemman, President and CEO of Netafim USA.

“The Precise Defense program is a best of both worlds partnership that addresses the most pressing concerns of today’s almond growers and now inspires them to voluntarily adopt better solutions to tackle climate change. By participating in the Precise Defense Rebate Program and investing in a drip irrigation system, growers can be sure they have the tools they need to mitigate nematode damage, maintain (and even increase crop yields). crops) and use water more efficiently, ”said Chuck Bates, vice president. President Products and Agronomy, Netafim USA.
